The Creason family moved to Hesperia in 1936 for a drier climate due to Norman Creason’s respiratory ailments. The photograph above left of one-year-old Mary Ann Creason, her father Norman, and the family horse was taken in 1937. The 1942 photograph above right shows Mary Ann Creason with her teacher, Miss Schock. In the background is the old schoolyard. (Right photograph by Norman Creason; both courtesy MACR.)

The photograph from the 1945–1946 academic year shows Mrs. Odening in front of the schoolhouse with four of her students. From left to right, they are Lillian Stratton, Walter Odening, and Joyce Phillips. The schoolhouse shown here was Hesperia’s second; it was built in 1926 and was used until about 1956, when Joshua Circle was built. When the second schoolhouse was constructed the original was used as a cafeteria. (Courtesy HRPD.)
